Whale ‘trained by Russian military’ found off Norway
A tame beluga whale wearing a Russian-made harness has been spotted in Arctic Norway, leading some to speculate it escaped a Russian military facility.

The harness that features a mount for an action camera has “Equipment St. Petersburg” written across it. Marine experts believe the animal may have been trained by the Russian navy in Murmansk as part of a marine mammal special force.

During the Cold War-era the Russian military ran a programme to train whales and other sea mammals to detect weapons and send alerts.
