The serial production of new self-propelled artillery gun Lotus is to start in 2020.
New Lotus vehicles are to roll across Red Square on Victory Day on May 9 2019. The new development of the Russian defence industry can operate like a common howitzer, but it can also destroy targets with high-trajectory fire, like a mortar.
The Lotus is produced with the use of elements of low-frequency electronic stealth technology to make it less conspicuous on the battlefield. The Lotus vehicle is also equipped with a digital fire control system.
The prospective 120-mm Lotos gun is designed to replace the Nona-S self-propelled gun for units of airborne forces and naval infantry. Design features of the vehicle remain classified.
However, the Russian Technologies Corporation has exposed a few details about the performance of the new system.
– The maximum firing range reaches 13 km;
– The targeted rate of fire – 6-8 shots per minute;
– The weight makes up 18 tons;
– The maximum speed – up to 70 km/h.
The Lotus vehicle can be transported on board military transport aircraft, from where it can be parachuted down for landing operations.
