In recent developments where the Russians and Filipinos begin to learn and improve their relationships altogether, it is also worthy of discussing possible Russian arms options based on the potential and likely to get them.

The Russians have recently had their warship Admiral Tributs, a Russian destroyer with a oiler Boris Butoma designated at the Russian Pacific Fleet docked in Manila for giving a good mood as it continues strengthening the relationship with two of the greatest states (Philstar). These indicate the country’s good intentions to promote a better relationship with the Philippines brought by President Duterte’s Independent Foreign Policy where the government interacts with a kind of “Charm that is offensive” to other powers other than the US such as Russia and China where it gives an idea that a pragmatic relationship in terms of diplomacy and trade is really a good thing. Then here is the Ambassador Igor Khovaev, the Russian envoy in the Philippines who has a press conference on board the ship where he indicated the Russian government’s intention to give the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) a variety of Russian weapons (Reuters) where it is a different ecosystem than NATOs who provide a disorderly interoperability for the military in which customization will be made. But again, the AFP is still possible to adapt, arrange and acquire Russian weapons in which agreements like this, it gives the Philippines the capability it needs as well as the benefits it provides from the deal.

Russian weapons and systems are somewhat different in formats and ecosystems than those in the west. Similarly, there are different ways in which the equipment is maintained and operated. These are the result of the different paths that are carried out by two countries during cold war in which the standards on weapons systems differ in these countries where systems are changing as part of arm race in two countries. At present, both countries and allies dependent on them use either the NATO-based armor or the Russian, Eastern Weapon Center, with different countries varying this type of weapon systems with well-known examples of India, Malaysia and Indonesia. In this discussion, it refers to military weapons that Russia may offer in the Philippines where the downsides will come in the picture.
